In the past five years, Covaris has moved with NGS into the clinical arena, where the library preparation workflow has been complicated and time-consuming. “We have been working really hard in simplifying the workflow for NGS, using AFA technology to replace some of the pipetting and passive diffusion elution steps of the NGS workflow,” says Hamid Khoja, Ph.D., principal scientist, Covaris. “We are also working on reducing the hybridization time for the enrichment procedure. Typically, that requires 16 to 24 hours. In some of our initial data we have been able to reduce that to less than an hour.

Universal Sample Processing of Multiple Sample Types for Reproducible Proteomic Sample Preparation

Our workflow combines ProtiFi and Covaris technologies into a universal proteomic sample preparation workflow. We employ 5% SDS as a universal protein solvent and Covaris AFA®technology to reproducibly homogenize and extract samples. ProtiFi™ S-Traps™ then capture, concentrate, and clean proteins of SDS and other contaminants on-column, where they are digested to peptides for bottom-up proteomics.
